CIRCUIT BREAK APPLICATION
Pull the
BREAK-SAFE
® aluminum pull ring connected to the
black plastic pull strap until the tool locks in the OPEN position
with the yellow internal tube visible.
Once the tool is open (yellow tube exposed), insert the black
locking pin (attached to the elastic band) into the black lock
body, completely through the cam reset button and exiting
the other side of the black lock body. The locking pin must be
fully inserted until the large diameter is against the lock base
and cannot be inserted any further. This hole location will be
clearly identified on the bottom decal by a red arrow. This
pin serves as a safety measure to lock the tool in the OPEN
position only.
NOTE: The locking pin has been designed to hold the tool
in the open position and secure the load-pickup trigger (cam
reset button) from inadvertently being accidentally pulled
or bumped. When the
BREAK-SAFE
® has been properly
opened (yellow tube visible), the locking pin should easily
insert into the black lock body and through the cam reset
button. If the locking pin cannot be inserted into the black
locking base and through the cam reset button it alerts the
operator the cam button has been accidentally/partially oper-
ated and the tool needs to be properly reset. To properly reset
the
BREAK-SAFE
® , pull down on the aluminum pull ring
connected to the black plastic strap with enough force so the
cam reset button returns to the full raised position. Now insert
the locking pin into the black lock body and through the cam
reset button until fully seated. This action should be smooth
and require to effort.
Securely attach the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head (MAKE
SURE TOOL IS IN THE OPEN POSITION WITH THE LOCK-
ING PIN IN PLACE) to one side of the area to be bypassed,
we’ll call side “A”.
Securely attach the non
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head to the
other side of the area to be bypassed, we’ll call side “B”.
Prior to energizing the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper it is necessary
to remove the locking pin from the black lock body and cam
reset button. Now energize the
BREAK-SAFE
® temporary
jumper system. This is accomplished by using a hotstick or
shotgun stick to pull the cam reset button in a downward
movement to trigger the load pickup action of the tool. After
the tool has been closed, insert the locking pin into the hole at
the base of the
BREAK-SAFE
® to lock the tool in the closed
position to prevent accidental opening of the tool. This hole
location will be clearly identified on the bottom decal by a red
arrow.
Using supervising utility standard safety practices and proce-
dures, the permanent circuit can now be cut and both ends
insulated and isolated.
Prior to opening the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper circuit, remove
the locking pin from the base of the
BREAK-SAFE
® tool.
Break the circuit by pulling down on the
BREAK-SAFE
®
aluminum pull ring/black plastic strap until the tool locks in the
OPEN position with the yellow internal tube visible.

cam reset button and exiting the other side of the black lock

Verify there is NO VOLTAGE on side “B”, at the non
BREAK-
SAFE
® jumper head. Remove the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper
head, side “A”.
Remove the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head, side “A”.
Remove the non
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head, side “B”.
Attach temporary grounding clamp on side “B” near the
non
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head.
Perform all necessary work on the de-energized portion
on the circuit.
CIRCUIT MAKE APPLICATION
Remove the temporary grounding clamp from side “B”,
near the non-
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head. Pull the
BREAK-SAFE
® aluminum pull ring/black plastic strap
until the tool locks in the OPEN position with the yellow
internal tube visible.
Once the tool is open (yellow tube exposed), insert the
black locking pin (attached to the elastic band) into the
black lock body, completely through the cam reset button
and exiting the other side of the black lock body. The
locking pin must be fully inserted until the large diameter
is against the lock base and cannot be inserted any
further. This hole location will be clearly identified on the
bottom decal by a red arrow. This pin serves as a safety
measure to lock the tool in the OPEN position only. Refer
to earlier note to verify proper opening and locking of the
BREAK-SAFE
® .
Using supervising utility safety practices, securely attach
the non
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head to non-energized
(side “B”) of the circuit to be energized.
Securely attach the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head to the
energized leg side “A” of the circuit.
Prior to energizing the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper it is neces-
sary to remove the locking pin from the black lock body
and cam reset button. Now energize the
BREAK-SAFE
®
temporary jumper system. This is accomplished by using
a hotstick or shotgun stick to pull the cam reset button in
a downward movement to trigger the load pickup action of
the tool. After the tool has been closed, insert the locking
pin into the hole at the base of the
BREAK-SAFE
® to lock
the tool in the closed position to prevent accidental open-
ing of the tool. This hole location will be clearly identified

Using supervising utility standard safety practices, un-
cover the permanent jumpers and reconnect.
Prior to opening the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper circuit,
remove the locking pin from the base of the
BREAK-
SAFE
® tool. Break the circuit by pulling down on the
BREAK-SAFE ® aluminum pull ring/black plastic strap until
the tool locks in the OPEN position with the yellow internal
tube visible.
Once the tool is open (yellow tube exposed), insert the
black locking pin into the black lock body, completely
through the cam reset button and exiting the other side
of the black lock body. The locking pin must be fully
inserted until the large diameter is against the lock base
and cannot be inserted any further. This hole location will
be clearly identified on the bottom decal by a red arrow.
This pin serves as a safety measure to lock the tool in the
OPEN position only.
Remove the non
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head from side
“B”.
Lastly, remove the
BREAK-SAFE
® jumper head from
side “A”.
